Tim Blackburn who records under the name Mistrust headlined the Future Showcase event at Future Yard in Argyle Street, Birkenhead on Sunday 19th of November, 2023.

Review of Mistrust Live at Future Yard!

UK solo electronic music artist Mistrust played live at the Future Showcase, at Future Yard in Birkenhead, along with local bands Jerboa, Handsome Rat, and Michael McKenna.

Mistrust performed his upcoming single at Future Yard for the first time, along with songs from his latest album “Sunlight”.

It was the first time Mistrust had a played at a showcase event. There was a large crowd in attendance, many of who had specifically come to see the artist play his biggest gig so far. The artist had only started out performing his own songs live in April 2023.

The audience sung and clapped along to all of the songs that Mistrust played on the night. He had a great reaction to his fans’ favourite song “Yellow and Grey”, particularly with a surprise inclusion of…. well, you’ll have to watch the video of the performance to find out!

Mistrust says: “The Future Showcase at Future Yard was his first ever showcase event, and his first gig at such a big, well-established venue. Bands such as Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Badly Drawn Boy, and Lydia Lunch had all recently played at Future Yard, so he was following in some great footsteps.

You could say that Mistrust was also warming up for some big artists… Only a few days after he played at Future Yard, the legendary KLF performed on the same stage. The Zutons will also be playing there in early 2024.

It was a great night for fans of early 80s-inspired electronic pop music, or a fan of bands like OMD, Pet Shop Boys, and New Order.

He only started playing live in 2023 and has recently performed at HMV stores in the North West and the Glaston-BURY music festival. Mistrust’s songs are unashamedly influenced by early 80s synth pop bands such as The Human League, Pet Shop Boys, and local Wirral band OMD.

Press / Reviews
Yellow and Grey is “A tune that is unashamedly basking in the memories of early 80s Synth and Electro Pop of a kind once pioneered by the early versions of OMD and Human League.”

“Effortlessly melodic with a simple but great hook. Synth Pop that will put a smile in your heart.”
Neil March (Trust the Doc / Exile FM Radio)
